Workshops

We are continuing our FREE Weekly Workshops programme for this season and they are open to anyone interested in the topic being covered.

The workshop sessions will last for approximately one hour.

The public car park above the garden costs £1.00 per day.

 Activities will take place between the times listed.

It is essential to book a place for the workshops to be allocated a place in advance. This will make sure that we have appropriate facilities and materials available.          For our activities please just turn up.

SUNDAY 3rd SEPTEMBER 2017 at 2pm  WILD FOOD WALK – a relaxed walk lead by Ian Openshaw – The Wild Food Walker. Ian will share his knowledge of the plants growing all around us and how to safely choose what to eat.


SUNDAY 10th SEPTEMBER 2017 between 11am and 2.30pm  ABUNDANCE APPLE PRESSING– bring along your spare apples and make them into juice (for consumption or freezing) you may also wish to make your own cider!

SUNDAY 17th SEPTEMBER 2017 at 2pm  BOTANICAL ILLUSTRATION using the community garden for inspiration.  Participants will be introduced to observational drawing techniques through a short series of pencil ‘warm up’ exercises and an extended drawing activity led by Wayne Fallon illustrator. All equipment will be provided for participants.

SUNDAY 24th SEPTEMBER 2017 between 11am and 2.30pm  OPEN DAY & ABUNDANCE APPLE PRESSING– We are holding an Open Day with lots of activities for all ages, the pizza oven will be in action again and you can bring along your spare apples and make them into juice (for consumption or freezing) you may also wish to make your own cider!

SUNDAY 1st OCTOBER 2017 at 2pm  PREPARING WOOD FOR THE WINTER – a practical workshop to learn axe and sawing skills, tool care & sharpening. How to best prepare logs and kindling for the fire this coming winter.

SUNDAY 8th OCTOBER 2017 at 2pm  NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH FRUIT & VEG?– a demonstration by Polly Bentley “Can’t eat it now?…put it in a jar” – cordials, pickles, chutneys, jams, jellies, preserves of all kinds

SUNDAY 15th OCTOBER 2017 at 2pm  CONNECTING UP A SOLAR LIGHTING SYSTEM – a practical session installing a solar lighting system on the Inspire Caravan by Chris Brooks

SUNDAY 22nd OCTOBER 2017 at 2pm  PUMPKIN CARVING – a session for younger people to learn the skills to carve pumpkins ahead of Halloween celebrations on 31st October.

SUNDAY 29th OCTOBER 2017 at 2pm  PREPARING THE PLOT FOR WINTER – a workshop looking at what is best done to make sure that the plot is in good order next year!

 

FUTURE WINTER WORKSHOPS and ACTIVITIES being planned include a STILL TOO MUCH FRUIT & VEG? –dehydration – dried herbs, fruits, sweet leathers, peels, prunes, currants and more, HARDWOOD CUTTINGS FROM SOFT FRUIT BUSHES, WINTER PRUNING OF FRUIT TREES & TREE DRESSING DAY in December.

 

These workshops will be FREE to attend but any donations to the Inspire Community Garden will be gratefully received by the charity!
